News outlets have gotten plenty of practice manufacturing hyperbole surrounding sex and violence in video games. What we seem to brush aside, however, is the rampant lack of serious coverage in main stream media. When video games do get the coveted spotlight of a news segment, it either falls just short of responsible journalism or shows itself to be hilariously misinformed. At best, this turns into a joke on the internet. At worst, the misinformation that has more influence than any game journalism blog.

This episode we invite Asif Siddiky of 2 Player Productions to focus on two news segments that seem to miss the point and expose their bias against serious coverage of the medium, with segments from NPR’s All Things Considered and Morning Edition. (It’s recommended you listen to these stories to help follow our conversations about them.)

Episode 34 – Live at the 2012 Stumptown Comic Fest

AJBS, A Jumps B Shoots, podcast, live, Portland Stumptown Comics Fest, 2012, Dark Horse Comics

A Jumps B Shoots had the opportunity to be one of the live streaming podcasts at Portland’s Stumptown Comic Festival 2012alongside veteran podcasts Dangerous Kids, Chronicles of the Nerd, Geek in the City, Going Last, Kaijucast, and Dawn Taylor Presents. It was also our first dive into the deep end of live radio broadcasts (thanks to Radio Stumptown)— it was interesting, and should give fans a rare look at the podcast sausage being made.

Come, listen to our attempts to stay on topic as we discuss the on-and-off again relationship that video games and comic books tend to have. What makes a good video game based on a comic property, and how does that process works? Also, the ever-talented pixel artist Paul Robertson is given an open invitation to be on AJBS, if only so we can yell at him about not making more video games.
